What Happens On The Day

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY

We like arriving at least 30 minutes early to set up and introduce ourselves, then we settle down with our materials around us.

We will only need a table and a few chairs in a reasonable lit area.

We prefer drawing from a fixed position, we find that speeds things up and makes it easier for the guests to find us.

Then Chris starts drawing a warm up caricature. Doing that usually piques people interest and in the space of a minute or so he has a queue of people waiting to be drawn .

He takes around 5 minutes to draw and ink a single person, so if there are couples or trio’s he’ll take 10 or 15 mins per drawing .

I then take over and finish off his excellent drawings by adding colour, shadows and a bit of ‘good old fairy dust’ to them to make them pop even more!

Chris in the meantime is off to the next group of people .

Once it’s finished I wrap the artwork flat in a sealed waterproof sleeve so the drawings are protected and the guests get to take the artwork home with them as a nice memento of the day, having me doing that speeds up the process as Chris can concentrate on being a drawing machine !

As part of our package we offer a special colour drawing of you and your partner, this could be inspired from a picture taken before the wedding, or we can draw it after the event if you send him a picture of you dressed in your wedding attire ..

As you’re not going to be there to see them all , we will take pictures of everyone we draw holding their caricatures and we will send you a ‘we transfer’ or messenger file with all the pictures drawn/taken on your special day for your wedding memory album !!

So .. this is it I guess !!

Hope it works for you both , let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great day and run up to the big day!

Sara has also worked as a producer and in the art department of many short movies .

After her upbringing in Milan and studies in Paris, she lived in London for 17 years and West Sussex for 10.

She and her two younger kids then moved to ‘sunny’ Colne in 2019.

She started collaborating with Chris in 2023 , initially as manager and admin assistant , but being the bossy Italian woman she is, she soon got herself a foot in the door of all those glamourous weddings and corporate events and she is now known as the ‘Colour Queen’, adding colour and a bit of fairy dust to Chris’s remarkable line work .

She is learning the ropes of live caricature work on the job and has quickly dusted off her art knowhow and is increasingly involved in ‘Caricature with attitude’ commission work.

Locally he illustrated the tourist board publication, “A Century of Fun” about Blackpool Tower.

In Preston Chris painted the well known “History of Preston” mural at the St George’s shopping centre.

Chris’ work also included caricatures of famous musicians. His painting of The Rolling Stones brought him to the attention of Bill Wyman himself for his Sticky Fingers Restaurants.

Subsequently, Phil Collins sponsored Chris for a grant from the Princes’ Trust to work as a record sleeve designer for Genesis and other rock bands. This work has proved hugely popular and he has exhibited his portraits of Hendrix, Nirvana, and many others at the Virgin Megastore in Manchester and the Grundy Art Gallery in Blackpool.

Chris’s paintings have taken him further afield and he held a couple of successful exhibitions in Vancouver, Canada.

Chris Knapman’s varied talents include interior design. He has recreated favourite cartoon characters on children’s bedroom walls and Rubens in a dining room! Nightclubs and schools have all benefited from his talents.

Since 2015 Chris has started specialising in live caricatures, and that’s when ‘Caricatute with attitude’ was born!

Since then he has become a prominent member of the Caricature Community in the UK working at wonderful weddings and private events all over the North West and for numerous blue chip companies such as AstraZeneca, Dulux, Subway, Harley Davison, UCLAN, Birmingham City, Vets for Pets and numerous others.

Chris has recently been invited to   represent the UK at a Worlwide Caricature Artist Festival in Turkey.

Being a great sport lover he specialized in team caricatures and is often employed by teams to capture their players.

He has illustrated ‘La Prem de la Prem’ a tribute to the players that made the premier League the richest and most entertaining league in the world (Available on Amazon / Barns and nobles / Waterstones online and from Chris’s website)

These days he is busy running from Castles to Stately Homes up and down the UK, helping to create special memories through his art.
